Foundations have a role to play to broaden the reach of a tech. However, prematurely forming Foundations hurts this. If I were to compare this to an early stage startup, its like hiring a group of inside sales team before product-market fit. This often kills companies. I view premature formation of Foundations kills new tech as well. I would have preferred to see Google take it further, get it adopted in few beach head customers and then form a Foundation — perhaps, in 2018.

Parody + Tech commentary.
